little poll time.
I have a question for you all.
Do you prefer that the graphic makers reply to your comments (even if it's just "thanks" and "enjoy") or not?
I've been thinking about this and I feel that the members/watchers connect more with the maker that way, so I am just wondering what you think.

Poll #1791613 Icon maker's replying to comments ...

Would you prefer that I reply to your comments?

Yes
49(69.0%)
No
10(14.1%)
Other (comment)
12(16.9%)

If you have something to say, discuss, comment please do it in a reply to this entry. Thank you! :)

Personally, I reply to the comments I get, I'd feel rude otherwise, lol. But at the same time, in your case especially, you get soooooo many comments (that you absolutely deserve! you stuff is just divine!) and it would be hard to keep up. So, it's up to you really :)

That's exactly why I'm asking. I feel a bit dull replying to 60 comments with "Thanks, enjoy!". :/

For me, there's no need to reply to "great work, taking no. 73653" unless the maker wants to.
I would appreciate an answer to a specific question though. Such as about the source of graphics or brushes/textures/methods used or permission to use the graphics elsewhere.

Yes, of course. Specific questions are entirely different, I make sure to reply to those comments and help in the best way I can. :)

i dont expect an answer unless i said something other than "taking x, great" kind of thing. if i said/asked something rather long or different though, i'd like to get an answer. i wouldn't expect, but i'd like it if i see a reply.

If there is a question or someone does elaborate on their opinion, or there is a comment on the show/move etc. I usually reply. Thanks for commenting, it's great to get opinions like this from others! :D

I voted No, only because I know how busy you are! I don't feel there's any need to reply to a comment saying 'taking number *whatever* but agree with the comments below, any questions, would be nice if those were answered :)

I voted yes, but that's in lieu of a general statement somewhere saying "thanks for all your comments, they are appreciated though I cannot reply to every one."

I just like to know that the person got the comments left behind, and having a reply or that statement somewhere on the post is usually how I know it.

I think that it's ok not to reply to everyone in case the comments just go like 'Took the set.Thank you!', because honestly there is no point on making 60 comments with something like 'Enjoy, thanks for taking!'. However if you have someone giving you concrit, opinion or asking something else i think it's only polite to answer that person in the way one find the most appropriate. But that is me.=)

Personally, I do not care if the maker just replies with a "thanks, enjoy" kind of comment - in fact, if that's all it says in the notification, I don't bother going to read the entry. Especially considering you get so many, I could see how that would be tiring, tedious, or repetitive.

If the person leaves more than just "these are awesome, taking [blank]," though, then I think it would be courteous to reply.

Like the others stated, if it's more than just a simple "taking #___, will credit", you could probably reply back but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

I think you should do what you have time to do. Certainly reply to those comments that ask a question or something like that, but beyond that, if you want to reply, do it. If not, don't.

I don't mind if you are too busy. It's nice but sometimes RL gets in the way!

If all I've said is "taking #13, thanks" or whatever, then no reply is necessary. If I said something more specific or asked a question, though, of course I appreciate a reply!
cowardlylion9 on November 1st, 2011 10:33 pm (UTC)
To be honest I don't care if the maker answers or not.
They can do it of course, but it is not something I'm really expecting. After all, you guys spend so much time doing things for others, that for me seeing a batch is already a good gift. :)

I like the reciprocity of both viewer and maker commenting, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. It's up to you, really. :)

Ask yourself, do I want to talk back to this person or am I interested in replying to this comment? If the answer is no or I don't have time for it, then screw it.

However, I think you should answer specific questions.

Personally, I reply in the following manner: a) plain 'thank you' answer - I'm glad that people acknowledge my work and I appreciate the comment, but I do not reply just because the conversation leads nowhere (might want to add a general 'thank you for all your replies' note in the delivery if you feel like letting them all know that it's appreciated, although in my opinion it's bloody obvious that people appreciate this stuff) b) specific question - always answer c) long and creative comment (but most of those involve a question) - more likely to answer than not if it mentions the theme that I want to discuss d) favouritism - I'm far more likely to reply to a person on my friend list even if they simply said 'thanks' than to anyone else, but my friend list is probably the shortest friend list on the internetz for the active lj account.

I honestly don't mind either way. =)
